Every office has its fixtures, and ours has been here for 27 years.
From joining PME as a 16-year-old apprentice to becoming Workshop Manager, Martyn Harwood has spent nearly three decades helping shape the business into what it is today. While he may have swapped the toolbox for a desk on some days, don’t let that fool you, he’s still just as likely to be found rolling up his sleeves, climbing into an engine room or helping customers solve a problem when it matters most.
Over the past 27 years, Martyn has become one of the most experienced marine engineers in the business. His expertise with MAN Marine Engines has supported the commissioning, servicing and warranty of hundreds of vessels from leading boat builders including Princess, Sunseeker, Wight Shipyard and Alicat. From luxury yachts to commercial vessels, RNLI lifeboats and Ministry of Defence landing craft, his knowledge and practical approach have earned the trust of customers across the UK and Europe.
Martyn’s contribution extends far beyond engineering. He has mentored apprentices, delivered technical training to dealers, vessel owners and crews, and remains one of the first people colleagues turn to when faced with a difficult technical challenge. Around the workshop, it’s often said that if Martyn doesn’t know the answer, it’s probably not worth asking the question.
His dedication, reliability and willingness to help have played a huge part in building PME’s reputation for exceptional aftersales support. Whether commissioning a new installation, diagnosing a fault or supporting a customer in the field, Martyn’s calm, practical approach has made a lasting impact on both the business and the wider marine industry.
So, while a plaque might not quite have made it into the marketing budget this year, we couldn’t let 27 years pass without saying thank you. Congratulations, Martyn, and thank you for everything you’ve contributed to PME over the past 27 years. Here’s to the next chapter.
